RUSSIA MUST HAVE A BOMZH DEPUTY! Published by SMI.RU 06.11.1999 _____________________________________The electoral commission of the Universitetsky District of Moscow denied registration as independent candidate to Vladimir Kaurov, who had intended to represent the interests of the Russian "bomzhes" (hoboes) in the Duma, "Moskovskaya Pravda"reports. The electoral commission motivated its decision by the fact that Kaurov has no passport, while the ID given to him in a shelter for bomzhes was considered invalid. An offended Kaurov filed a complaint against the commission's actions with Moscow City Court. Comment: One wonders: if Zyuganov or Primakov had lost their passports, would the Central Electoral Commission have denied them registration? Here is a case of real injustice - the several million Russians who are on tramp or begging all over the country cannot nominate their own candidate. While a bomzh deputy would fit into the Duma perfectly. The whole country has heard many famous candidates, leading members of prominent political blocs, whining in beggar-like fashion during registration: "We don't have a kopeck in our pockets, we are strangers in these parts - ple-e-ase, let us into the Duma!" It was only after registration that some of these candidates were found to possess a luxury apartment, and a second and a third one, or a mansion, plus maybe a couple of jeeps. But not every one of them was thus exposed. Maybe Kaurov is just being cautious? In any case, when the whole country is a bomzh, on tramp and begging for its bread, the Duma simply must have a representative of this very prominent and numerous population group. _____________________________________________ SMI.RU, 2000.
